SDR Radio Using SDRSharp and Realtek 2832u

I just installed my new Realtek Dongle USB ( RK2832u , to start playing with SDR Radio.)

SDR Radio is software defined Radio:

Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that have been typically implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system.[1] While the concept of SDR is not new, the rapidly evolving capabilities of digital electronics render practical many processes which used to be only theoretically possible.

There is a good explanation on Wikipedia

I bought it from a Chinese suppier, even though I was very carefully, I wasn’t sure if the Chip was what I asked for. When I tried to use with Sdr Sharp, it didn’t work!

Well, I had to do some google work and finally found some tutorials. The first thing I had to do is to be sure that my dongle has an Realtek “soul” inside. The best way to do that is by chcking the usb id. I did that using a free software Called USBDview, that lists every USB at your computer. I downloaded it from HERE

This is my RTL Dongle:

This is the box:

Then had to run USBDview just to be sure that my RealTek IS a Realtek:

As you can see, It is listed OK. After som searches, I identified my problem, I have to install a special driver, in order to work with SDR Sharp. The driver can be easily installed with Zadig ( see below ).

The sdr software can be downloaded here:
Sdr Sharp Softwre

It is very simple to install, just unpack it. Run the install script. It worked ok for me.

But if you try to use it, it will not work! Remember, first you need to install a specific Driver, and for that you need a software called Zadig, it will help you in the process.

The procedure to install rtl specific software with Zadig is

If you did all steps You are ready.

I am just wondering if I can use this chip to capture NOAA Images…
Well, I found a link. Let me try this later!
